I first discovered Yoga while living in New York City. I was introduced to asanas, pranayama and yogic philosophy at the Sivananda Ashram in Upstate New York, and I continued my practice of Sivananda Yoga for the next seven years. I became interested in the history of Yoga, which led me to study Astanga Yoga, and eventually to The Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram in Chennai, India.
At the birthplace of Yoga, I learned the importance of breath, and had the opportunity to study Vedic Chanting and a form of energy work called Pranic Healing. Several years later, while living in Santa Cruz, CA, I discovered Tri Yoga, a wonderful form of Flow Yoga created by Yogini Kaliji.
Today, I teach a form of Energy Flow Yoga, incorporating the many teachings from which I have benefited. I think of asanas as body mudras. When the body is holding a specific asana, it changes the energy flow in the body. When combined with breath awareness the mudras give you the beautiful energy practice of Yoga. Ultimately, yoga practice prepares the body for meditation.
