The word “yoga” in Sanskrit, means “union.” Feel the union of breath, body, mind, and spirit with the wild beauty of the desert. Try our dirt yoga class and and start your day with sunrise and asanas.
I first discovered Yoga while living in New York City during the mid-nineties. I spent a week at the Sivananda Ashram in Upstate New York, where I was introduced to asanas, pranama and yogic philosophy. I continued practicing Sivananda Yoga for the next 7 years. During that time I became interested in the history of yoga which led me to the study of Astanga yoga, and, eventually to The Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram in Chennai, India. There at the birthplace of Yoga, I learned the importance of breath, and had the wonderful opportunity to study Vedic Chanting and a form of energy work called Pranic Healing. Several years later, while living in Santa Cruz, CA, I discovered Tri Yoga, a wonderful form of flow yoga created by Yogini Kaliji. Today I teach a form of energy flow yoga which incorporates the many teachings I have benefited from. I think of asanas as body mudras. When the body is holding a specific asana, it changes the energy flow in the body. When combined with breath awareness they give you the beautiful energy practice of Yoga. And, ultimately, the practice prepares the body for meditation.
